The free trial
Sopycat is free to try for 14 days. The trial is the full app, with every feature. You do not need an account or a card to start it: download Sopycat, install it and start working.
Use the trial to check that Sopycat suits the programs and PDFs you work with. It runs on Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. See Install, update and uninstall.
Buying a key
Choose a plan on the pricing page and pay. Your key arrives by email. Keep that email, so you have the key to hand when you set up another computer.
There are two kinds of plan:
- One person. A personal key covers up to 3 of your own computers, for example an office PC, a laptop and a home PC.
- Office. Each person in the office gets their own key.
Entering your key
Copy the key from the email and paste it into Sopycat. You can do this during the trial or after it ends. Nothing in your library changes when you enter a key.
The key box under Settings › How the words get written › Sopycat account belongs to the online writing option, which only changes who writes the sentences for each step. See Choose how the words get written.
How many computers a key covers
A personal key covers up to 3 of your own computers. It is for one person, so two people sharing one key need an office plan instead.
With an office plan, each person has their own key and uses it on their own computer. Everyone can still point their Sopycat at the same shared library folder. See Share a library with your office.
If you replace a computer and need the key moved, write to support@sopycat.com.
When a trial or plan ends
Nothing is deleted. Your manuals, PDFs and other documents stay in your library folder, which is ordinary files on your PC.
- You can still open and read every manual and PDF.
- Recording, editing and exporting wait until you enter a key.
- Enter a key and everything works again, with nothing to restore.
Because the library is plain files, you can also keep backups of it and read the PDFs in any other PDF reader. See Backups and Recently deleted.
Checking the key, and working offline
Sopycat checks your key once when you enter it, then quietly refreshes the check now and then. You do not need to be online to work: Sopycat keeps working offline for a while between checks. If you are away from the internet for a long time, connect once so the check can refresh.
